Wolves have made a mixed start to the season in the Championship.

Wolverhampton Wanderers hero Andy Thompson has dismissed any speculation that has suggested that Walter Zenga may already be battling to save his job at Molineux, but did suggest when the pressure may begin to be applied, the Express and Star reports.

Zenga’s tenure has begun in unspectacular fashion. Wolves currently sit 12th in the table, having won four, lost four and drawn three from their opening 11 games.

The Express and Star has claimed that there had been some rumours that Zenga’s position may already be under threat, with some even suggesting that he could be just two games away from getting the sack.

However, Thompson has insisted that he would be stunned if the Italian’s position was so precarious already, but did suggest that it may not be too long before his future is considered by the club’s hierarchy.

“You’ve got to give people time and he’s got a lot of new players to bed in,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“I think it’s been an indifferent start but I wouldn’t think he’d be two games off the sack, looking at the whole situation. He’ll get a bit more time, especially with the circumstances of what’s gone on so far.

“He’s not going to get unlimited time – I think they’ll be having a better look around Christmas. I think that’ll give you a clearer insight into what’s going on.”

Molineux - general view

Though Thompson has suggested that he would be shocked if Zenga is in trouble, it appears that the board’s resolve could be tested in the next couple of games.

Wolves travel to face Aston Villa in their first fixture following the international break and then face another away clash, this time against high-flying Brighton.

Given the bragging rights on offer against Villa, a poor result there could be a massive blow to Zenga’s hopes of avoiding questions about his future. And if a defeat there is followed by another against the Seagulls – which would make it four in a row – Thompson may find it much more difficult to defend him.
