Wolverhampton Wanderers are still searching for Walter Zenga’s successor.
Andy Thompson believes that Wolverhampton Wanderers would be making a smart decision if they decided to appoint either Paul Lambert or Nigel Pearson as their new manager, the Express and Star reports.
The Championship side are still without a permanent boss after parting company with Walter Zenga in the wake of the club’s home defeat to Leeds United last month.
Walter Zenga was sacked last month
The Express and Star reports that both Pearson and Lambert remain in the frame to succeed the Italian as the second round of interviews take place at Molineux.
And Wolves hero Thompson believes that either man would be capable of elevating the side up the table if they got the job.
Paul Lambert
“They both have a good level of experience at this level and that is what you need,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star. “You need someone with experience of the English game which is what we didn’t have with Walter Zenga.
“If the club are set on wanting a British manager you can see why these two are high on the list.”
Nigel Pearson
As Thompson alluded to, both Pearson and Lambert have plenty of experience in the second tier. And while both men’s last jobs failed to do anything positive for their respective reputations, they have both led teams to promotion to the Premier League.
And although Wolves are currently 17th in the table, there is arguably still enough time for the new man to come in and perhaps inspire the side right into the promotion mix this season.
