Dario Osorio has shades of Gareth Bale in the way he attacks the defence, former Universidad de Chile goalkeeper Johnny Herrera tells Todos Somos Tecnicos amid reported interest from Premier League duo Wolves and Leicester City.
One of the most exciting young footballers to emerge from Chile since the ‘Golden Generation’ of Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and co, 18-year-old Osorio has already been labelled ‘the new Angel di Maria’ by some.
Now, he’s being mentioned in the same breath as another Champions League-winning former Real Madrid forward. Osorio, while far from the finished article, is already in good company it seems.

“In recent times, he has stagnated a bit. But, for me, it is clearly because of the position where he is playing,” Herrera says, pointing out that Osorio is having to contend with additional defensive duties of late.
“I think that when he stands out more is when he plays like Gareth Bale; freer and behind a more centralised, number nine with him on the wing. He’s half a Gareth Bale lookalike.”
Wolves and Leicester target Dario Osorio shining in Chile
According to 90Min, the likes of Leicester, Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford are showing a ‘real interest’ in Osorio. Chilean reporter Maks Cardenas, meanwhile, claims to have heard that Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a deal to bring the teenager to Molineux in a £5.5 million deal; potentially as soon as the January transfer window.
“Today, I can’t tell you we are ready to sell Dario Osorio,” explains Cecilia Perez, Universidad’s Vice President. “Because he first has to go through the board of directors
“I can tell you that there are specific offers for Dario Osorio. Are there are offers from Wolverhampton Wanderers? Could be. There are offers.
“If we get an offer at the height of what he is worth, (and one that suits) the aspirations that Dario has, without a doubt that will happen (he will leave). The last two years, Universidad de Chile has not been able to sell any player. And that hits you hard in the pocket.”
Osorio, who has also been likened to Barcelona’s former Leeds United talisman Raphinha, has seven goals in 26 league games for a struggling Universidad side.
