Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has spoken of the moment he made his Premier League debut for the club, sharing what Joao Moutinho said to him as the two swapped places on the field.

The 19-year-old has been with Wolves since the age of eight and has risen through the ranks at the club, going on to make his senior debut aged 16 as a substitute in a win over Stoke City in the third round of the FA Cup on 7 January 2017.

A league debut followed on 14 February 2017 in a Championship defeat against Wigan Athletic and his Premier League bow came in the opening fixture of the 2018-19 season, a draw against Everton at Molineux back in August.

Gibbs-White’s rise also saw him scoring for England in the final of the Under-17 World Cup as the Young Lions beat Spain to lift the trophy in India in October 2017, while in January 2018 he signed a new contract at Wolves, committing the next four-and-a-half seasons to Molineux.

This summer, the player is in the England Under-21s squad for the first time for the European Under-21 Championship in Italy and San Marino, which begins on 16 June, and in conversation with the Premier League website, he described what it was like coming on in place of Moutinho in the Toffees draw.

“To come on for a player that’s had so much experience and is such a good technical player, and for him to say, ‘Good luck,’ was a massive thing for me,” Gibbs-White is quoted as saying.

“To play with those sort of players, it boosts you as a player because you want to be like them, you want to perform like them and you want to, if anything, be better than them.”
