The Wolverhampton Wanderers captain scored in Wednesday’s 2-0 cup win at Premier League Southampton.

Despite being a local lad and lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter, it’s fair to say Danny Batth hasn’t always had his own fans’ full backing.

And while Wolves’ performances collectively over the past few campaigns are perhaps partly to blame for Batth’s perceived struggles, the 26-year-old’s hopes of a fresh start under the new Molineux regime were swiftly dashed.

Little over a week after the transfer window’s official opening Wanderers already had three new centre-backs in place, leaving Batth low down in Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans.

Wolves’ club captain is still awaiting his first Championship appearance of the season, with the Carabao Cup his only opportunity to impress so far.

But Batth’s exploits at Southampton on Wednesday – a goal and clean sheet in a 2-0 win for the visitors – may have put him back in the frame for Saturday’s trip to Brentford.
