The Wolverhampton Wanderers star, alongside Mexico’s other Europe-based players, are likely not to be involved for their country until next March now.
A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter to celebrate the news that Raul Jimenez is set for an extended break from Mexico duty.
The 28-year-old has had a very busy calendar year for club and country so far, with 44 games under his belt for Wolves and El Tri combined, not to mention plenty of air miles.
With Mexico having won the Gold Cup in the summer and Europa League football coming to Molineux, there were fears Jimenez could face burnout come the end of the year.
As reported by Mexican outlet Soy Futbol, however, El Tri head coach Gerardo Martino is not planning to call up any Europe-based players for October and November’s Concacaf Nations League, which means Jimenez may not be involved with his nation until late March.
Given Wolves are currently set to fight on four fronts this season – Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League – the news is a welcome boost for Jimenez and the Molineux contingent alike.

Jimenez has been with Wolves since 2018, first on loan from Benfica and then joining permanently the following summer for a reported £34.2million fee, is on a reported £41,231-per-week (Spotrac) and has netted 25 goals to date for the old gold (Transfermarkt).
