A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on sporting director Kevin Thelwell being appointed to the Wolves board of directors (official Wolves website).

Thelwell has been with the Molineux outfit for over a decade, joining in 2008 as academy manager, and then becoming head of football development and recruitment, before his promotion to sporting director soon after Fosun’s takeover in 2016.

As announced by the Wolves website, Thelwell’s promotion will see him retain all current responsibilities overseeing the club’s footballing infrastructure, as well as taking on additional duties supporting the board and “helping the ownership group achieve its long-term aims”.

Reaction by the Wanderers fanbase was fairly mixed, with those in support suggesting that, as part of the setup that has helped get Wolves to where they are now, they trust what the owners have done.

Here are some of the comments on social media:

Thelwell’s appointment – subject to Premier League approval as is customary with board amendments – was ratified by Fosun last week and he will begin his new position immediately, joining Jeff Shi, Sky Sun, John Gough and John Bowater on the Wolves board of directors (Wolves website).
