Wolves were linked with the Mexico international but unfortunately he won’t be joining compatriot Raul Jimenez at Molineux any time soon.

A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the confirmation that reported Molineux target Edson Alvarez has agreed to join Ajax.
The Eredivisie giants announced the deal on Friday on their official website as the Mexico international arrived from Liga MX side Club America, agreeing a five-year contract – subject to a medical.
Wolves were believed to be in the running for Alvarez’s signature, along with Scottish champions Celtic, Ajax’s rivals PSV Eindhoven, and Italian duo Atalanta and Fiorentina, according to America Monumental.
The versatile 21-year-old defender, who was also utilised as a midfielder during El Tri’s triumphant Gold Cup campaign this summer, has reportedly joined the Amsterdam side for a fee around $17 million (£14million), according to Goal.com.
Naturally, many Wolves fans were disappointed in finding out that Raul Jimenez’s compatriot will not be joining him at Molineux, and made their feelings known on the social media platform:
Alvarez rose up through the Club America youth academy, scoring twice in the 2018 Apertura final against Cruz Azul to help win the title for Las Aguilas.
