Aleksandar Mitrovic is reportedly a Wolves target, despite a controversial history with the club.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has proved to be a Championship star with Fulham since signing in January, already netting 11 goals for the promotion-chasing side.

And so it is little surprise to see sides queuing up to register their interest in the striker, with the Chronicle reporting that Wolverhampton Wanderers are among them.

Wolves certainly look to be the most attractive option for both Mitrovic and Newcastle, offering Premier League football, an exciting style of play and also the funds to pay a hefty fee.

But it is a little strange to think that Mitrovic could be lining up in a gold shirt next season, given what the Wolves fans made of the forward just a year ago.

Mitrovic scored Newcastle’s winner in a hard-fought away win at Wolves in their Championship promotion season, but the home supporters were furious that the Serbian was still on the pitch.

Indeed, he was substituted minutes later, having been jeered throughout following a number of rugged challenges.

Should Mitrovic join Wolves, though, this type of love-hate relationship will no doubt continue as supporters prepare to welcome the striker.

The loan forward is not even unanimously loved at his own clubs. He is a popular figure at Fulham, no doubt, but his discipline remains a concern. At Newcastle, he splits supporter opinion.

And so Wolves could well see Mitrovic from the other side. There would undoubtedly be occasions where he would put himself in a situation where he could be sent off, having his own fans defend him at Molineux.

Others may retain frustrations and Mitrovic’s relationship with Wolves could come full circle.
