The striker is on the books of West Brom but has impressed on loan at Newcastle and some Wolves fans seem keen on bringing him to Molineux.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have opened talks with West Bromwich Albion over a possible deal for Salomon Rondon, according to reports.
The 29-year-old has been on loan at Premier League side Newcastle United, scoring 11 goals (Transfermarkt) and such was his impact that he was voted Player of the Season at St James’ Park.
Rondon has become a Toon Army favourite but the future of manager Rafael Benitez remains uncertain, the Spaniard currently in discussions with Mike Ashley, which means any transfer activity is likely to be on ice for now.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are yet to make an offer for Rondon – who has a £16.5million release clause – and that has opened the door for Wolves, who want a forward to compete with Raul Jimenez up front.
The report also adds that, with Dwight Gayle having been on loan at Albion, Newcastle have considered offering him as a part-exchange deal, but the Championship side want a straight cash deal, which Wanderers would be able to do.
Wolves have had an impressive first season back in the Premier League but one issue they’ve had is struggling to break down sides who sit back and defend, and Rondon’s physical and direct style of play would go some way to addressing that.
