Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-23s have returned to the top of the Premier League 2 Division 2 table thanks to their 1-0 victory over Fulham at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground on Friday night.

The first 10 minutes of the encounter were fairly subdued but the Cottagers were first to weigh in with an effort on goal when, 10 minutes in, Elijah Adebayo let rip with an effort from the edge of the box that keeper Andreas Sondergaard palmed away.

Fulham looked most comfortable for the first half but Rob Edwards’ charges grew into the game just before the break and went on to take the lead shortly after the restart from the penalty spot.

Niall Ennis was brought down in the Fulham box after latching on to a Pedro Goncalves through-ball, prompting the referee to award a spot kick, and the England Under-19 ace (Transfermarkt) opted to take it himself, firing past the keeper’s right-hand side into the back of the net.

Wolves held on for all three points to put them back at the summit on goal difference ahead of Reading and Southampton, and Ennis – who also grabbed the winner in the prior U23s game against Hull in the Premier League cup – sent a Twitter message after the game:
