Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby County went head-to-head this weekend with the Rams coming out on top.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert made some questionable team selections for the weekend clash against Derby County, not least starting George Saville at left-back against the pace and guile of Tom Ince.

Needless to say it was an experiment that fell flat, with Saville putting in a performance that was as much to do with his manager’s recklessness as his own inability to play on the flank.

Wolves lost 3-1 to the Rams with David Nugent and Bradley Johnson scoring before half-time and Craig Bryson sealing the win in the second period.

Ben Marshall’s goal shortly before the break gave Wolves hope but Ivan Cavaleiro’s dismissal had already made things increasingly difficult and this was a bridge too far for Wolves.

There is nothing left to play for this season, however the performance and the team selection means Lambert has a lot of decisions to make in the coming months.
