Wolverhampton Wanderers fans on Twitter are congratulating young defender Cameron John after signing a contract extension this week.

John, 18, is contracted to Wolves until 2020 after signing a two-year extension.

Such is the youngster’s promise, Wanderers senior boss Nuno Espirito Santo brought him and four other Under-23 stars along to Portugal for pre-season training in the first team last month.

He is clearly one to watch in the future and some Wolves fans are chuffed with the announcement.

John has a ways to go before he will be under consideration for a regular spot in the senior squad, but he has started both of Wolves’ Under-23 games this season, so he’s on the right track and his extension is a reminder that he is highly rated within the club’s academy.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this year that John – a centre-back who can play full-back – had already attracted scouts to some reserve games last season.

Nuno’s troops visit Sheffield Wednesday in a second-round League Cup game on Tuesday, and if the former Valencia coach names an experimental XI then Wolves fans could well John in there.
