Wolves fans react on Twitter to ‘terrible’ McDonald performance v Reading

Kevin McDonald underwhelmed Wolves fans for a change on Sunday afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 3-3 draw at Reading was a dream game for the neutral.

Defensive mistakes and forwards at the right place at the right time to capitalise on those mistakes equaled goals galore.

For Wolves, however, this was an uncharacteristic performance. Kenny Jackett’s side have been nothing short of superb at the back so far this Championship campaign. But not so at the Madejski Stadium.

One reason for the lack of efficiency was a similarly uncharacteristic dip in quality from Kevin McDonald. Indeed, the Wolves midfielder has made the most accurate passes in the Championship by far. But the stats looked a little worse for wear against Reading.

As Opta data shows, McDonald completed just 80% of his passes during the 3-3 draw, which is considerably lower than his usual metronomic standards.

That said, the 25-year-old still made more accurate passes than anyone bar Oliver Norwood of Reading. And, as supporters were keen to point out, he cannot necessarily be expected to turn in a 10/10 performance every week, while he was considerably better after half-time.

McDonald’s lack of discipline on the ball was representative of a wider trend on Sunday, though, and, while many Wolves fans were happy with a point, some were all too aware that they had the lead with just minutes remaining.
