Should Robbie Keane return to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he began his career?
Republic of Ireland’s Robbie Keane
Republic of Ireland legend Robbie Keane has announced his intention to quit LA Galaxy when his contract expires next month.
The news was confirmed via LA Galaxy’s official website, after six largely successful seasons at the MLS club.
Commenting upon his impending departure, the 36-year-old said he was looking forward to a new challenge, one which would likely be his last.
The striker played for seven different clubs in England as well as Celtic in Scotland and Inter Milan in Italy, and a few of those teams like Leeds United or Coventry City may well wonder – or dream – whether he could be making a triumphant return.
Yet the team which arguably need him the most, is the club where it all began, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Keane started his professional career at Molineux, hitting it off with a bang by netting a brace on his debut, but the lure of the Premier League saw him tempted away.

Now he could potentially return to the club to finish what he started, and try and take Wolves back into the top flight, where they figured without him and even against him, during the subsequent course of his career.
After a depressing drop to League One, Wolves are back where they were, as a mid-table Championship club – a perhaps generous assessment based on their placing of 19th.
Yet they are heavily backed by new investors, and with new manager Paul Lambert at the helm, they are not expected to remain down the wrong end for long.

Wolves’ financial strength makes the possibility of signing Keane genuine, as they could afford his wages, especially on a short term commitment.
Keane’s return could galvanise what is a talented team, lacking a proven goalscorer, sell tickets and engage the fanbase.
It would be a no brainer if the Irishman can be convinced, whether he can, is another matter.
Here is a look at how Wolves fans reacted on Twitter to hearing Keane will soon become a free agent…
