The Wolverhampton Wanderers cult hero has done superbly with the Molineux side’s Under-23s but is now leaving to take up a role with the FA.

A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have taken to Twitter to wish Rob Edwards all the best after it was announced that the Wolves Under-23s coach would be leaving Molineux (official Wolves website).
The former Wolves defender led the development side to promotion from Premier League 2 Division 2 last season and leaves the club with them in seventh place after seven games in the first division.
Edwards has stepped down from his role at Wolves to take up a coaching position at the Football Association, a decision he admitted was very difficult to make with regards to leaving Molineux.
The 36-year-old, who made more than 110 appearances in the old gold during a playing career which also saw him feature for clubs including Aston Villa, Blackpool and Barnsley, returned to Wolves in 2014 as an academy coach, taking over the Under-18 squad.
After a brief stint as interim first-team head coach, Edwards remained at Wolves as a first-team coach under Paul Lambert, and after a year as manager of AFC Telford he returned to Molineux in July 2018 to take over the under-23s from current Head of Academy Scott Sellars.
Here is what some Wolves fans said on social media regarding the bittersweet announcement on the club’s Twitter channel:
Former Wolves winger Mark Kennedy, who has been assisting Edwards and Sean Parrish with coaching the under-23s this season, has been placed in caretaker charge of the side whilst the search for a successor is conducted.
