Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were far from impressed by their striker’s display during Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at Derby.

Any Wolves fans traveling to Pride Park on Saturday afternoon could not have been blamed for hoping for a good conest against Derby County.

Both sides have done well so far this Championship season and can plainly be seen as promotion contenders.

On the day, however, Derby showed that they are a class apart – and thumped Wolverhampton 5-0.

“That was as near to a perfect performance as you’ll see, not just with the ball but without the ball too,” Rams boss Steve McClaren told BBC Radio Derby after the phenomenal win.

“Our work-rate, our running and our organisation and discipline – that’s what impressed me. Forget the rest, that follows.

“We tried to stop Wolves playing. We just smothered the opponents and played good football. The key was being ruthless, keeping going and taking advantage. Once we’ve got that look in our eyes, we’re a good team.”

Now, no striker can realistically be blamed for a side conceding five goals. But he can for a poor performance.

And Wolves fans seem to have had enough of Leon Clarke, with several claiming that the visitors would have been better off with 10 men than starting him at Derby.

Clarke’s form looks to have concerned supporters for quite some time – and Twitter produced nothing different after Wolves’ 5-0 loss to Derby County.
