Wolves fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports coming from The Irish Sun on Tuesday which suggested that the Championship leaders are keen to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala at the end of the season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have wrapped up the second tier title with relative ease this term and can already focus on securing the kind of targets that will enable them to establish themselves at the highest level after a number of years away.

Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City at Molineux on July 29, 2017 in Wolverhampton, England.

The Irish Sun suggests that one of the targets on their radar is Mangala, who looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer in the summer as his contract with the club runs down.

Mangala has not enjoyed the easiest time since arriving in England, only showing glimpses of the kind of quality that convinced Manchester City to spend £32 million to sign him in the first place. His loan spell at Everton saw him make just a couple of appearances before an injury ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Despite his struggles, The Irish Sun reports that Wolves are able to pay Mangala’s £85,000-a-week wages, and with the Frenchman being a Jorge Mendes client, it appears, on paper, that the Championship winners stand a very good chance of bringing him through the door at Molineux this summer.

Unsurprisingly, the news that Wolves want Mangala has received a mixed reaction on social media, with many supporters scratching their heads as to why the club would want to sign the 27-year-old given his reputation for being mistake prone.

However, there are some who have seen what Nuno has done with a number of players this term and believe that the Portuguese could make a similar impression on the centre-back and help him realise his potential. And with the potential deal set to be a free transfer, there seems little risk involved.
