Wolves fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough in their pursuit of a play-off place.

Wolves fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough last night as their Championship promotion hopes took a slight hit.

The result hasn’t changed the club’s position in the table of eighth, with the side three points behind the top six and still in with a chance of securing a play-off place by the end of the season, which will be the main aim of the club.

Middlesbrough started the game at a very high pace and quickly went into a 2-0 lead with Wolves struggling to get into the game over the first half.

They improved over the second 45 minutes, pulling a goal back and looking more dangerous late into the game, but the damage was already done and Kenny Jackett’s team just couldn’t recover during the game.

One player who won’t be pleased with his performance is central defender Danny Batth, who was one of the players who can be found guilty of looking sluggish at the start of the match as Middlesbrough mounted some early pressure.

What made his performance more disappointing in the eyes of fans will be that he is the team’s leader and had a responsibility to keep the back four tight and secure over the first quarter of an hour.

Next up for Wolves is an early kick off this Saturday against Ipswich, the side that currently holds the final play-off position in the table.

Jackett is likely to stress in training over the rest of the week, the need for his side to be more resilient at the start of the game, gradually creeping forward and imposing themselves on the opposition over the course of the game.

Last night was a blow, but there’s still plenty to play for. Here’s what Wolves fans made of Batth’s performance last night.
