Wolves fans unimpressed with Newcastle United manager’s comments.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has stoked the bad blood between his club and Wolves with comments made after the weekend’s match.

Benitez believes Wolves fans were wrong to boo midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, with the Express and Star carrying quotes from the Toon boss saying that the supporters at Molineux should be investigated.

Shelvey picked up a five game ban earlier in the campaign for using racially insulting comments made to Wolves midfielder Romain Saiss, so it was no surprise that he came in for stick on Saturday from the home crowd.

Benitez said: “One thing the FA has to maybe consider is what the fans were saying. Maybe, to control what the fans say and have more respect.”

Newcastle won the game 1-0 through a goal from Aleksandr Mitrovic, consolidating their lead at the top of the table and avenging Wolves’ win at St James’ Park back in September.

Benitez’s comments did not go down well with the Wolves faithful, who took to Twitter to lambast the Newcastle United manager.

Newcastle’s league position means the bitter feeling between the two clubs will likely not be exacerbated further next season, with the Toon likely to win promotion.
