Wolverhampton Wanderers booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup after knocking out Stoke City.
Wolves fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on their entire team following their surprise win over Stoke City in the third round of the FA Cup, but it is Carl Ikeme’s display that has really got supporters talking.
The Championship side booked their place in the fourth round of the competition as they beat their top flight opponents 2-0 at the Bet365 Stadium thanks to a first-half strike from Helder Costa and a wonderful free-kick from defender Matt Doherty after the interval.
Wolves’ Carl Ikeme
But the victory may have been slightly less convincing – though, no less impressive – or the game may have perhaps ended in a draw had it not been for Ikeme.
The 30-year-old made a string of sensational saves to preserve a clean sheet against a team who had only this season handed a Championship goalkeeping stalwart the chance to play in the Premier League in Lee Grant.
Wolves manager Paul Lambert
And Ikeme proved that a team at the highest level should have perhaps taken a chance on him as he pulled some off miraculous stops, during the second-half especially, to ensure that Paul Lambert’s men pulled off one of the bigger shocks of the round.
And Wolves supporters took to social media after the game to discuss his fantastic display.
