Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to rock-bottom Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night as Steve Mounie scored in injury time – and Wolves fans have criticised Nuno Espirito Santo for a substitution he made.

Huddersfield dominated proceedings throughout, having 15 shots and three on target while Wolves managed just seven in total which was somewhat surprising given that Wolves sit in eighth place.

With Wolves pushing for a winner, manager Santo looked to freshen things up from the bench. He made three substitutes, bringing Helder Costa, Morgan Gibbs-White and Ivan Cavaleiro on for Raul Jimenez, Joao Moutinho and Diogo Jota.

But it was Huddersfield that found the elusive goal, as Mounie scored from inside six yards – reacting to first to Karlan Grant’s shot and tapping the ball home.

Jota, 22, is in excellent form for Wolves at the moment, having had a hand in eight goals in 25 league and cup encounters. Three of those came in a hat-trick during a 4-3 win over Leicester City.

Wolves fans took to Twitter out of sheer frustration following their inability to beat Huddersfield, criticising their manager for taking Jota off in the 66th minute rather than keeping him on the pitch.
