John O’Shea’s recent Sunderland form shows his best days are behind him but could he still do a job for Wolves?

When Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled off a 2-0 FA Cup upset away at Stoke City in January, Mike Williamson’s performance at centre half was akin to a new marquee signing.
The veteran centre-back made his first start of an injury hit season and rolled back the years with a display of class, composure and superb positional sense. At 33, WIlliamson appeared to be the experienced old head that Wolves’ inexperienced backline were crying out for.
It’s just a shame, then, that his body did not agree. Williamson played just five more times in Wolves colours before being released at the end of the season.
However, according to The Chronicle, Wolves have their eye on another old-school centre-back as Williamson’s potential replacement. The report claims that 36-year-old John O’Shea has been offered the chance to continue his career at Molineux with his contract at Sunderland running down – despite the Republic of Ireland legend hoping for a new deal at the Stadium of Light.
O’Shea is one of the most decorated players in Premier League history, winning the top flight on five occasions with Manchester United while also lifting the Champions League in 2008.

However, those days are a long time ago now with the veteran suffering the first relegation of his career with Sunderland in 2016/17. Furthermore, injuries remain an ongoing concern.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that Wolves supporters are dividied at the prospect of O’Shea replacing an injury-stricken veteran at Molineux.
