Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town played out a 0-0 draw in the Championship last night.
Depending on the stance taken on the pessimistic-optimistic scale, Wolverhampton Wanderers either recorded yet another poor result on their downward spiral towards the Championship relegation zone, or they arrested a six game losing streak.
Wolves, who remain one point and one position ahead of Bristol City in the Championship relegation quagmire, began the Portman Road encounter with the talismanic standout Helder Costa on the substitutes bench – as head coach Paul Lambert continued his search for an effective starting XI with yet further line-up changes.
However, Wolves’ record signing was called upon for the final ten minutes of the encounter, with an accompanying spell in which Wolves hit the frame of the goal twice and could well have departed East Anglia with maximum points.
The reality of the situation was far more drab – as the game faded into the classification of the forgettable. The match stats reveal that their were just three attempts on target, meaning that the 0-0 scoreline was not a huge shock to either set of supporters.
Upon reflection of the game, Ipswich fans – whilst maybe not overjoyed with a fifth successive draw – may well admire manager Mick McCarthy’s unbeaten record against his previous employers since his Wolves sacking in 2012 – but supporters of the Molineux outfit were left somewhat frustrated with their current predicaments.
Indeed, on the back of last night’s draw with Ipswich, Wolves fans have taken to social media platform Twitter to express their thoughts on a variety of issues – ranging from the game in isolation, the organisational structure of the club, defined opinions towards Lambert’s team selections and ability to steer the club forward – and, in the interests of perspective, even a comparison to the assumed crisis at Premier League giants Arsenal.
