The Molineux academy graduate debuted for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Asia Trophy.
Wolverhampton Wanderers academy graduate Dion Sanderson has taken to Twitter to express his delight at making his senior debut for the Molineux club in Wednesday’s 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle United in the Premier League Asia Trophy.
The right-sided defender, 19, was brought on off the bench by Nuno Espirito Santo in the 62nd minute of the game in Nanjing, along with Ruben Vinagre, Taylor Perry and Niall Ennis, the quartet replacing Adama Traore, Jonny Otto, Morgan Gibbs-White and Diogo Jota.
Sanderson’s introduction in the pre-season game came following an impressive 2018-19 campaign in which he was thoroughly impressive at centre-back and right wing-back for the Wolves Under-23s, helping Rob Edwards’s side win the Premier League 2 Division 2 title.
The talented youngster suffered a stress fracture injury during the first half of last season but recovered to play a key role in the promotion to the top tier of the Premier League 2, and last month, he was rewarded with a new contract which commits his future to Molineux until the summer of 2021.
Sanderson’s tweet was met with many messages of congratulations and goodwill by the Wolves faithful following his momentous day:
