The Wolves midfielder and England Under-17 World Cup winner is in the Young Lions squad for the Under-21 European Championships.
Wolverhampton Wanderers and England Under-21 midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has shared his opinion of how his season has gone as well as speaking about his prior experiences at international level – including his triumph in the Under-17s World Cup – ahead of the U21 European Championships (FA website).
The 19-year-old has been with Wolves since the age of eight and has risen through the ranks at the club, going on to make his Premier League bow in the opening fixture of the 2018-19 season, a draw against Everton at Molineux back in August.
Gibbs-White’s rise also saw him scoring for England in the final of the Under-17 World Cup as the Young Lions beat Spain to lift the trophy in India in October 2017, while in January 2018 he signed a new contract at Wolves, committing the next four-and-a-half seasons to Molineux.
The midfielder, who made 31 appearances in all competitions for Wolves in the season just gone (Transfermarkt), has previously represented the Three Lions up to Under-19s level (Transfermarkt) and has been rewarded for his club exploits by making Aidy Boothroyd’s squad for this summer’s European Championships in Italy and San Marino.
“To make my debut in the Premier League, start five games and make 25 appearances, I’m chuffed with how the season’s gone and I’m hoping next season will be even better,” he told the official FA website. “When you’re growing up as a youngster, you’re just enjoying it, but when I first made my debut for Wolves, I thought this is the career that I want and this is the life I’m going to be living from now on.”
On the subject of what he can offer the England U21s, Gibbs-White said: “I believe my athleticism and my experience around the first team at Wolves can add something to the squad. And in terms of tournament football, there was the U17s World Cup so I can add that as well. It’s been the best achievement in my career so far, it still leaves me speechless each day. It all seemed so quick, but it was best experience and feeling I’ve ever had in football.”
The Molineux academy graduate is part of an highly talented England U21s squad which includes the likes of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Leicester City midfielder James Maddison and Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson.
