Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for the Mexico international, who plays for El Tri alongside Molineux ace Raul Jimenez.

Reported Wolverhampton Wanderers target Edson Alvarez has admitted that he is “closer and closer” to his “dream” amid reports that he is edging towards a move to Europe.
Wolves are believed to be in the running for his signature, along with Scottish champions Celtic, Dutch pair Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, and Italian duo Atalanta and Fiorentina, according to America Monumental.
The versatile Mexico defender, who has been utilised as a midfielder during El Tri’s Gold Cup campaign, currently plays for CF America in the Mexican top flight.
Alvarez’s current boss at club level, Miguel Herrera, has already stated that he believes the 21-year-old will leave the club this summer, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.
Now, in an interview with Univision, Alvarez is quoted as saying: “The possibilities are there. I am very happy to be closer and closer to that dream that I long for with all my heart and I hope it is the best for me.”

According to Mediotempo, Alvarez has a £8million release clause in his contract, which seems a bargain in top-level football terms considering his age, current achievements – a Mexican title, a Mexican Cup and 22 caps – and potential.
In addition, Wanderers already have one of Mexico’s most popular footballers on their books in striker Raul Jimenez, which would mean that Alvarez would have a compatriot and international teammate at the club who could help him settle into life in England.
