Matt Doherty and Adama Traore could prove to be a deadly partnership on Wolves’ right flank.

The Irishman came on at half time in place of Ruben Neves and was instrumental in Wolves avoiding defeat at the hands of Southampton on Saturday. Doherty and Traore combined before the former was brought down in the box which led to Raul Jimenez converting the penalty to level the game.
Doherty was asked about the game and his newly formed partnership with Traore and the Irishman claimed that Southampton didn’t know what to do about the duo at times on Saturday.
He said: “When I came on, I was told to play a bit more inside and let Adama stay out wide.
“We obviously work on those kinds of things on the training ground all the time, and I managed to get in behind a few times, with one of those leading to the goal.
“When I play alongside Adama, we’re told to switch all the time – to never be in the same position. Our movement is quite good, and at times today their defence didn’t know what to do.”

Traore has shown flashes of brilliance over the years but has always failed to take his game to the next level. The Spaniard has, however, shown a bit of consistency this season thanks to Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision to move him to right wing-back.
The position change for a period certainly had an impact on Traore’s game and he looks a lot more composed in the final third even when he starts higher up the pitch. Doherty’s return to his natural wing-back role will be a big boost for Wolves and his partnership with Traore could be one that terrorises their opponents this season.
