Richard Stearman has explained to the Express and Star that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ game with Burton Albion at the weekend provided him with one of the highlights of his career.

The 29-year-old returned to Molineux on loan during the summer window after spending one season with Championship rivals Fulham.

And having made over 200 league appearances for the club before his departure last year, he was unsurprisingly given a great reception as he made his second debut for the side against Nigel Clough’s men on Saturday.

And he explained that the reaction from the supporters is something that he is unlikely to forget anytime soon.

“It was incredible – one of my best moments on a football pitch,” he told the Express and Star when asked about the reception.

“I had a great affinity with this lot when I was here previously.

“It’s great to rekindle that again. Hopefully I can reward them with the type of performance I had done previously.”

After a mixed year at Craven Cottage, Stearman will be hoping that his return sees him earn regular opportunities and allows him to rediscover his best form.

Walter Zenga has a fairly young squad at his disposal this season, so he will be looking to the experienced members of his side to help them cope with the demands of playing in the second tier.

And while Stearman only returned in the last few weeks, he will undoubtedly be one of the players that Zenga will expecting plenty from to give the club the best chance of contending for a place in the top six.
