Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Burnley 1-0 at Molineux.
Wolverhampton Wanderers created their own piece of history during their 1-0 victory over Burnley as they recorded as many as 30 efforts at goal – more than they have against any other side in Premier League history.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side headed into the encounter having already picked up their first three points of the season, defeating West Ham United 1-0 last time out thanks to a late Adama Traore goal.
Whereas Wolves were made to work hard for their victory at the London Stadium before the international break, against Burnley they had it all their own way as they really put the Clarets to the sword.
Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the game after the half-time interval, but it really should have been a much-wider victory as Wolves completely dominated – recording a whopping 30 shots.
Wolves spend heavily in the summer bringing in the likes of Joao Moutinho, Rui Patricio, Jimenez and former Barcelona man Traore and they’ve all made an immediate impact at Molineux.
Against Burnley, the midlands side looked like they were a league above their opponents despite Wolves’ recent promotion to the top-flight and Sean Dyche’s side’s seventh place Premier League finish last season.
The performance certainly bodes well for Wolves and offers high hopes that not only could they comfortably avoid relegation but could potentially go on to record a top ten finish this season.
If there was one criticism to make from a Wolves point of view, they were extremely wasteful in-front of goal as 1-0 didn’t illustrate their dominance over the 90 minutes as several big chances weren’t finished off.
