Shoya Nakajima looked set for a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers but now Premier League colossus Manchester United are reportedly keen.

Shoya Nakajima’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers was 80 per cent done in December. At least, that was what the president of Portimonese, Rodiney Sampiao, told Radio Renascenca.

“There has been a conversation. It is not yet 100 per cent finalised but it is possible in January,” Sampaio said. “Nakajima is 80 per cent at Wolverhampton.

“It’s a great sporting loss for us. We all regret his departure, the squad but also the fans. It turns out we had no chance of holding on to him.”

At the time, it seemed inevitable that we would see the Japanese winger posing in the famous gold kit of Wolves by the time the January transfer window opened.

Instead, in a strange turn, Nakajima’s potential move to Molineux has gone cold with the deal seemingly disappearing without a trace just weeks after A Bola claimed that an £18 million deal was near to completion.

Given that Wolves have been a little erratic in the final third recently, it seems a little strange that they haven’t just snapped up a player with five goals and five assists to his name this season.

Especially when you consider that Nakajima has been so impressive that he has caught the eye of none other than Manchester United, according to O Jogo, with the resurgent Red Devils reportedly sending scouts to watch the 24-year-old during Portimonense’s shock 2-0 win against Benfica on Wednesday.

If he’s deemed good enough for a star-studded United attack then surely Nakajima is a player who would enhance Wolves’ forward line too.

Just imagine if he ends up starring at Old Trafford. Wolves fans will be left scratching their heads.
