Following a stunning first start for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Connor Ronan needs some serious game time.

With all of the incoming players since the takeover at Molineux, it’s easy to forget that Wolverhampton Wanderers actually have a pretty solid youth system. One of the most recent products of that is 18-year-old Connor Ronan who impressed many during his side’s 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Quite a few fans were worried that the occasion may get to him, but the teenage prodigy looked like a veteran and played with the upmost confidence as Wolves were unlucky not to come away with all three points. Now, as they progress, it’s important that Ronan does not become a victim of rotation at the club.

Given the amount of star players already battling for a place in the starting XI this seems like a silly thing to suggest, but when you look through the history books it makes sense. There’s a long line of wonderkids that have benefitted from prolonged spells in the first team, and the lower leagues are a great platform for Ronan to showcase what he can do.

If rotation is the necessary step and Ronan doesn’t see much playing time, then loaning the youngster out to either a fellow Championship side or a League One team may be the best way to go. Now that he has a taste of what it’s like to start a game at this level, he will not want to go back to the academy and understandably so.
