The Wolves defender shed some light on Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision to bring on the oft-criticised Adama Traore at the break.

Conor Coady has lifted the lid on the controversial Wolverhampton Wanderers half-time substitution in Monday night’s 3-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester City.
At the break, with Wolves 2-0 down, Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Raul Jimenez with Adama Traore, who has been getting some stick from some of the club fanbase in recent weeks.
Some fans weren’t impressed with the substitution, as well as at the end of the match following his performance, and voiced their opinions on Twitter:
Earlier this month, the Wolves boss publicly admitted that the club-record signing had to improve, having joined for £18m from Middlesbrough last summer but with just one goal and no assists to his name, as written in Sky Sports News.
Coady spoke to the official club website after the defeat against the reigning Premier League champions and explained why Traore was brought on at the break.
“We were trying to give Adama a chance on the break,” he said. “Bringing Adama on was something that we wanted to do in terms of the pace and something the manager wanted to do.
“We were trying to keep them in front of us as much as we possibly could because when they get behind you, they usually finish off their chances, so it was a tough night all round.”
Wolves suffered an early setback in the game when Willy Boly was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Bernardo Silva on 19 minutes.
Gabriel Jesus scored twice in the first half before Coady compounded Wolves’ misery on the night with an own goal in the 78th minute.
