Wolverhampton Wanderers will bring Dario Osorio to the Premier League in January with a £4.5 million deal close for the Universidad de Chile winger, as reported by Red Gol.
Amid all the excitement surrounding the arrivals of Goncalo Guedes, Matheus Nunes and Sasa Kalajdzic, plus Willy Boly’s attempts to force through a move to Nottingham Forest, Wolves’ interest in one of South America’s brightest talents has flown somewhat under the radar.
Osorio, capped once by the Chilean national team at the age of 18, has been labelled the ‘new Angel di Maria’ back home; a flying winger with an ‘extraordinary’ shooting ability.
The teenager claimed in July that he feels ‘ready’ to make the step up to European football. He’ll have to wait until January, however; Red Gol claiming that Wolves are close to striking a deal that will see Osorio move to Molineux in the New Year for a fee of £4.5 million.
This means he will become the third most expensive export in Universidad de Chile’s history.
Wolves set to sign Chile international Dario Osorio
“The first thing on this subject: I think that a South American footballer cannot be cut off from his career when an offer arrives from Europe,” says former Universidad and Argentina midfielder Leonardo Rodriguez.
“In that sense, I think that Universidad is right to sell Osorio. I hope he enjoys himself (in England), plays and consolidates himself. Let him go with the peace of mind.”
Osorio, who can play on either flank, will be hoping to emulate Pedro Neto’s impact in England. Neto arrived as a little-known teenager from Lazio in 2019, and has gone from strength to strength in Old Gold.
Osorio certainly shares Neto’s searing pace and directness. He scored six goals in 20 games during his breakthrough campaign at Universidad de Chile.
“I find Dario to be a very good player. I see very good things in him,” adds team-mate Dario Ojeda.
“When there is an opportunity to go (to Europe), you have to do it. I didn’t, and later you regret it. You have to look for other experiences. He is a very good player. A gem. If he has to go, we will miss him. But it is what he has to do.”
