There’s hardly a long line of people waiting to stick up for the former Leeds defender.

Wolves boss Paul Lambert has told the Express and Star that he sees no issue with the way Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba behaved as he was sent off in disgrace against Brentford at the weekend.

Lambert’s side are slowly starting to pick up points after a distressing slide towards the verge of the relegation zone, with Floyd Ayite’s 94th minute leveller Saturday’s thrilling 4-4 draw against Fulham failing to dampen the new-found optimism at Molineux.

And Wolves will look to add to their positive run against a struggling Cardiff side shorn of their mountainous centre-half Bamba after one of the most extraordinary moments of the season so far.

The former Leeds United defender reacted furiously after being on the receiving end of a late tackle from Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas, confronting players and officials before shoving away Neil Warnock as the manager tried in vain to calm him down.

Unsurprisingly, Bamba received his marching orders and will therefore be suspended for The Bluebirds’ home clash with Wolves, though opposition boss Lambert believes the incident has been overblown.

“I think [Bamba’s] about 9ft so I think Neil was brave to argue with him in the first place – I wouldn’t have argued with him,” Lambert joked to the Express and Star, perhaps in high-spirits due to the prospect of Saturday’s rivals being stripped of their key defender.

“Listen that’s football, that’s the emotion of the game, I don’t have a problem with it and Neil will handle it how he sees best.”

While Cardiff will be without a defender, Wolves could gain one sooner rather than later, with Mike Williamson stepping up his recovery after a long injury absence.
