Kenny Jackett has told the Express & Star he is targeting signings in three positions as he looks to address what he describes as ‘glaring weaknesses’ in his Wolverhampton Wanderers squad.

Wolves narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season, but the loss of key attacking trio Bakary Sako (Crystal Palace), Benik Afobe (Bournemouth) and Nouha Dicko (injury) hit them hard in 2015-16.

Despite adding Sheyi Ojo, Joe Mason and Adam Le Fondre to their ranks at various stages, the Black Country club were unable to replicate their previous Championship success and ended the campaign in 14th place.

And Jackett is keen to get his recruitment right this time around.

“I feel we need options up front, that’s the most glaring in terms of recognised centre forwards,” the 54-year-old told the Express & Star.

“I would still suggest the left side as well is something we haven’t done well at. Jordan Graham gave an 11-game cameo appearance, but showed enough that could be an answer, and he’s young enough to get over his injury.

“Matt Doherty did very well in the left-back position but we need options as well. Natural full-backs is something that we need.”

Left-back Scott Golbourne was sold and not replaced in January, leaving youngster Sylvain Deslandes as Wolves’ only Doherty alternative, while on the wing Ojo’s return to Liverpool, coupled with Jordan Graham’s long-term injury lay-off, saw Jackett turn to Michal Zyro and Jeremy Helan (on loan) in the meantime

But with Zyro now injured himself, Helan back at Sheffield Wednesday and Tommy Rowe released, Wolves are left with teenager Connor Hunte and the out of favour Rajiv van La Parra as their only natural left-wing options.

And Jackett is similarly light in attack, having released Bjorn Sigurdarsson and allowed Le Fondre to return to Cardiff City, though Dicko is due to return next season.
