Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ryan Bennett has spoken highly of Molineux teammates Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez, saying they are incredibly hard workers as well as prolific goalscorers, and suggested they’re not mere “luxury” players.

Both Jota and Jimenez have enjoyed thoroughly impressive debut seasons at Wolves, the former getting eight goals and six assists in 33 games in all competitions, and the latter on 16 goals and eight assists from 40 appearances.

Even better for the Wanderers contingent, they are both contracted to the club long term, with Jota tied until 2022 and Jimenez – who has been on loan from Benfica – recently committing permanently to a deal until 2023 as of the summer.

Wolves have enjoyed a superb season following last term’s Championship title triumph, reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup and being in the top half of the table, although their form has taken a bit of a hit and, having previously been seventh, they are now tenth in the standings.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s home game against Arsenal, Bennett told the official Wolves website on the subject of Jota and Jimenez: “They’ve been unbelievable for us. It speaks volumes with the accolades and plaudits they get, but it’s also how hard they work for the team.

“It’s alright having a luxury player who’ll get you a few goals, but ultimately for us, and the way we play, we need players who will dig in and give us both, and for how well they’ve played with the ball, they’ve worked even harder and they’ve set the tone from the front of the team.”

After the Arsenal game, Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges will travel to Watford on 27 April before hosting relegated Fulham on the final day of the season.
