Celtic’s attempts to sign Barry Douglas this summer were thwarted by Wolves, who won the race to sign the Scottish defender.

Douglas signed a two-year deal from Turkish side Konyaspor, and has been a big success at Molineux so far.

According to Opta powered website whoscored.com, Doulgas is rated as one of the top 10 defenders in the Championship, and one of the two best left-backs.

Good choice

Konyanin Sesi reported earlier in the summer that Celtic had struck an agreement to sign Douglas, before Wolves swooped in and won the race for his signature.

It looks to be a smart choice from Douglas to move to Wolves, as at Celtic he would likely be stuck on the bench.

Kieran Tierney is the first choice left-back at Celtic and the side have little reason to rotate.

Douglas starred at the weekend in Wolves’ win over Aston Villa, and has a key role to play as the side bid to win promotion.

At Celtic he could have been involved in the Champions League this week, but when his only role would have been watching on from the bench, his decision to move to Wolves appears to be a shrewd one.
