The former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss is reported to have had contact with Aston Villa.

Aston Villa made contact with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy regarding their managerial vacancy, according to the Sun.
But the newspaper insists that McCarthy, who has been out of work since leaving Ipswich Town towards the end of last season, has not been interviewed about replacing Steve Bruce.
That does not however mean the 59-year-old will not be appointed at Villa Park – a prospect some Wolves and other rival clubs’ fans are teasing their Aston Villa counterparts about on Twitter, after Rui Faria became the latest candidate to be distanced from the role…
And these Aston Villa fans are starting to believe it themselves…
McCarthy told Virgin Media Sport last week he would be “absolutely” interested in managing Aston Villa.
The Yorkshireman led Ipswich to top-half finishes in three of his four full seasons in charge at Portman Road, which followed promotions at Sunderland and Wolves.

In total, McCarthy spent close to six seasons at Wolves, which would make his appointment at Villa a controversial one.
