Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers have beaten ‘one of the top three teams in Serie A’ to Chile international Dario Osorio while agreeing a fee of around £5.5 million, Chilean reporter Maks Cardenas tells Red Gol.

Earlier this year, reports suggested that Manchester City and Real Madrid were keen on one of the most exciting young forwards in South America. A free-scoring 18-year-old who has been labelled ‘the new Angel di Maria’ by some and ‘very similar’ to Barcelona star Raphinha by others.

And if such claims are true – that Wolves have fought off competition from City, Madrid and a Serie A superpower for Osorio’s very sought-after signature – then Bruno Lage’s side can afford to pat themselves on the back and toast a job well done.

Following Matheus Nunes and Goncalo Guedes, this is another, albeit far-less expensive, coup.

“Dario Osorio will leave for six million euros,” explains Cardenas.

“Osorio is ready (to leave Universidad de Chile). One of the top three teams in Serie A came for Osorio, I cannot say which one. They went to see him against England (a 3-0 win for the Young Lions over Chile’s U20 team last week).

“But, in the corridors, I heard that that he has already been sold to Wolves. For six million euros.”

Wolves reportedly agree £5.5 million deal for Dario Osorio

Wolves’ interest in the stylish Osorio nothing new. The men from Molineux reportedly came within touching distance of signing him over the summer; head of recruitment Mathew Hobbs conducting talks with a Unverisdad de Chile side seemingly ready to cash in.

“(Osorio to Wolves would be) the largest transfer in Chilean football for more than a decade,” reporter Juan Cristobal Guarello writes in La Tercera.

“Dario Osorio is good. Really good. He carries the ball well. He knows how to turn, he has power, technique and strikes hits the ball in an extraordinary way. With the right support and work, he can reach his full potential.

Osorio is a direct, speedy forward in the Pedro Neto mould. He has six goals in 22 league games this season for struggling Universidad de Chile.

“Am I ready to make the leap abroad? Yes, I’m ready to take the leap,” Osorio explains. “I try to continue working, to gain confidence.”

It is not certain whether he will immediately be part of Lage’s first-team plans. Osorio could initially go out on loan.
