The Wolves summer signing has delighted and frustrated the Molineux faithful in equal measure this term.
BBC Sport commentator Guy Mowbray has given his thoughts on the Wolverhampton Wanderers squad and one of his standout players is a player who has come for quite a bit of criticism over the course of the season.
Adama Traore became Wolves’ record signing last summer when they triggered the £18million release clause in his Middlesbrough contract, as reported by BBC Sport.
The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive start to life at Molineux as he netted a dramatic late winner away at West Ham United in only his third appearance for the Premier League new-boys.
However, Traore’s season as a whole has largely been disappointing, with that goal at the London Stadium his only one in his 28 appearances for Wolves in the top flight this term.
In all appearances, the former Spain Under-21 winger has made 35 appearances, scoring one goal – that same one – plus registering three assists, according to Transfermarkt.
In conversation with the official Wolves website, Mowbray was asked about which players took him by surprise, and his response was: “One of my favourite players is Adama Traore.
“When he comes on I start rubbing my hands because anything can happen. The talent is incredible, the pace in incredible, you can see every time he gets the ball the fans are getting ready.”
There is no doubt that Traore is an incredibly talented player and a snapshot of fan reaction to his displays this term shows a picture of frustration with his inconsistent performances, amazing one week and mediocre the next.
As an example, the 23-year-old has had some supporters describing him as “poor“, “hindering our play“, a “flop” and a “waste of money” against Fulham during the festive period, while in the 2-0 win over Cardiff City, some said he put in a “masterclass” and was “magnificent“.
