Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Raul Jimenez has revealed to The Sun that he is a Liverpool fan.
The 28-year-old Mexico international forward has disclosed that he became a fan of Liverpool during the Reds’ Champions League final against AC Milan back in 2005.
The Reds, then managed by current Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez, were 3-0 down at one stage, but the Premier League club staged a dramatic comeback thereafter to win the final on penalties.
Jimenez joined Wolves on a season-long loan deal from Portuguese club Benfica in the summer of 2018, and the Wanderers have made it permanent for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £30 million.
The forward will lead the line for Wolves in their Premier League game against Liverpool away from home at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old Mexico international forward has made 35 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Wanderers, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in the process.
Jimenez told The Sun: “The Miracle of Istanbul was the most amazing game I’d ever seen — and long before the end I’d decided Liverpool would be my team.
“Fourteen years ago I watched an English team in a big match for the first time and I just thought Liverpool were amazing.”
