Wolverhampton Wanderers have enjoyed a wonderfully successful campaign thus far.
Wolves stopper John Ruddy sat down for an exclusive interview with the Express & Star, and praised Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision to give the players who are not on international duty a few days off, ahead of what will be a physically demanding Championship run-in.
The Black Country outfit currently sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table, six points clear of second placed Cardiff City, but perhaps more importantly, 13 points ahead of third placed Fulham.
Wolves endured their first real sticky patch of the season a few weeks back, before chalking up two consecutive victories before the two-week international break, firmly putting to bed talk of a collapse in the process.
Ruddy praised the work of his manager, when speaking exclusively to the Express & Star, and highlighted the Portuguese’s decision to give the players a few days off as something that could prove to be vital during their Championship run-in:
“Eight games to go, we’ll go into it as fresh as we can with renewed vigour, if you like. We’ve been given a few days off to recharge and refresh which I think is really important. We’ve got a good few working days in there as well which is important to maintain fitness levels going into the final eight games of the season. There’s a lot of recovery, which is probably warranted and it’s been a long time since the last international break. It comes at a good time for us, as it probably does for the rest of the league.”
Next up for Nuno’s men is a trip to Middlesbrough on March 30th, before they play host to Hull City four days later, and a return of six points from those games could very well be enough to clinch promotion back to the Premier League, should results elsewhere go their way.
