The Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder was close to completing a switch to Tottenham Hotspur six years ago.
Wolves midfielder Joao Moutinho spoke exclusively to the Express & Star about how he is enjoying life in the Premier League, and admitted that he could have moved to England six years earlier, after just missing the deadline to sign for Tottenham in 2012.
The 32-year-old joined Wolves from Monaco this summer, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £5 million, and he seems to have taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.
The 113-capped Portugal international has made a wonderful start to his Molineux career, and he is arguably one of the best in his position in the entire division.
Things could have been so different for Moutinho, however.
The Wolves ace spoke exclusively to the Express & Star, and shared just how close he was to signing for Tottenham six years ago, only to miss the deadline by two minutes:
“Andre Villas-Boas was my coach at Porto and when he was at Tottenham, it was very close. I signed, but after the deadline. It was one or two minutes, it was over. The most important thing is that I’m here now and I’m happy to help the team to achieve their goals.”
Moutinho is a truly elite performer, and who knows what Tottenham could have achieved, had they signed the Portuguese ace way back in 2012.
