Wolves’ £16m sale could reportedly fall through, but two other clubs are interested

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Patrick Cutrone could miss out on a £16 million move to Fiorentina but, according to Tuttomercatoweb, fellow Serie A clubs Genoa and Bologna are alternative destinations.

It’s fair to say 2019/20 was a season to forget for the Italy international.

Cutrone, who arrived at Wolves after establishing himself at AC Milan as one of the hottest young strikers in Europe, was packing his bags again just six months and three Premier League starts into his Molineux career.

A loan spell at Fiorentina didn’t go to plan either.

La Viola had the option to sign Cutrone permanently for a fee in the region of £16 million, according to Sky, but that deal is now in doubt.

TMW claims the 22-year-old will struggle for game time at the Artemio Franchi in the upcoming campaign and, in this market, no one wants to pay £16 million for a benchwarmer.

Fortunately for Wolves, however, two other Italian outfits are keen to take Cutrone off their hands – although that £16 million windfall looks increasingly unlikely.

Genoa and Bologna are keen, although it seems the forgotten man of Molineux may be forced to endure another season out on loan with clubs all over Italy hit hard by the financial crisis.
