Wolverhampton Wanderers attempted to bring Jurgen Locadia to Molineux on transfer deadline day.

Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City at Molineux on July 29, 2017 in Wolverhampton, England.

Wolves have made a brilliant start to the Championship season with Nuno Espirito Santo’s men second in the table level on points with the table-toppers Leeds, but perhaps their start would have been even better had they landed one of their deadline day targets.

According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed from deadline day (31st August 2017; 00:23), Wolves were keen on PSV Eindhoven forward Jurgen Locadia and had actually tabled a £10 million-plus bid for the 23-year-old.

Obviously, Wolves missed out on the former Netherlands under-21 international. And while their own start may mean that they have not missed Locadia too much, his own form, and his most recent performance surely ends any hopes the Championship side had of trying to land him for a similar figure in the January transfer window.

Locadia was part of the PSV Eindhoven side that thumped Utrecht 7-1 away from home, and it was the forward who played a crucial role in the win, as he scored four and contributed an assist.

His first goal came after the goalkeeper made a good save but could only parry the ball out to the left where Locadia was first to follow up, and he found the empty net to break the deadlock.

Locadia turned provider for the second as he followed up a brilliant run into the box by drilling the ball across the six-yard box for Hirving Lozano to score a tap-in.

The forward would then create some breathing space between the two sides as he showed his composure to find the back of the net when played through one on one with the goalkeeper, before completing his hat-trick with a brilliant left-foot effort from the edge of the box.

Locadia’s fourth would come from the spot. And while Wolves fans will now be hoping that the club returns with a fresh bid in January, the club will know that any chances of landing the forward for around £10 million must surely be over.
