Wolverhampton Wanderers look certs to be promoted back to the Premier League.

Wolves are four points clear at the top of the Championship and eight points ahead of the playoff places as they look set for a return to the big time.

Nuno Espirito Santo has galvanised the club with his ambitiously assembled squad.

Wolves have won 16 of their 22 games so far this season, losing only three and have scored 42 goals along the way.

The club’s ambitious owners will undoubtedly be looking to strengthen come the summer if, as is expected, Wolves hold on to seal promotion.

And it could be that they reignite a move for controversial Italian striker Mario Balotelli to provide the extra quality and star factor needed.

Last year The Express reported that Jose Mourinho had advised Balotelli – currently on loan at Nice from Liverpool – to consider joining Wolves where super agent Jorge Mendes had been helping with recruitment.

The maturing striker has rebuilt his career and reputation in Ligue 1 scoring 25 goals in 36 games for Nice.

Speaking this week Balotelli said he is keen for a fresh challenge and will be available during the summer.

“I am 27 years old, so I can play another six or seven years at the top level… I know that in football I must continue working hard,” Balotelli told Sky Italia.

“I think I’m on the right track to do well and we’ll see where I end up.”

Whatever your opinion on the striker, his return to form in the last 18 months and apparent new-found maturity means somebody could be getting a bargain in the summer.

Wolves would likely be the biggest draw of any of the promoted clubs and it could be a move that suits all parties.
