Guillem Balague has hailed Julen Lopetegui as he prepares to finally become the new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager.

Wolves have been chasing a new manager for more than a month now.

Bruno Lage was sacked back on October 2nd after a 2-0 defeat at West Ham United.

Wolves then set about finding a replacement but suffered a couple of big setbacks.

Julen Lopetegui chose to reject Wolves as he focused on taking care of his ill father before Michael Beale decided to snub Wolves and stay at QPR.

That all meant caretaker boss Steve Davis was handed the job until 2023.

Wolves haven’t stopped pursuing Lopetegui though and they look set for a breakthrough.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Wolves were closing in on a deal for Lopetegui after he approached the club for new talks.

Lopetegui clearly just needed some time away from the game after leaving Spanish side Sevilla in October.

The Spaniard now feels ready to return and Wolves are closing in on finally appointing Lopetegui having admired him for years.

Loeptegui’s CV is impressive enough; he guided Sevilla to the Europa League title in 2020 and won a couple of titles whilst coaching Spain’s youth teams.

The 56-year-old will hopefully be the man to get Wolves on track this season and he is being backed by Guillem Balague for success.

Spanish football expert Balague has taken to Twitter to call Lopetegui a ‘detailed manager’ who now feels rested after a brief break.

Balague added one prediction – he believes that Wolves players will get better just by working with Lopetegui at Molineux.

It’s unclear just when Lopetegui will actually take charge; given his personal situation it may even make sense for him to take over after the World Cup.

Wolves will feel delighted to be on the verge of landing their original top target though and they will hope that Balague is proven right.
