With eight new signings already and the resources to acquire plenty more where they came from, it is imperative for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ old guard to impress when handed the opportunity.

But according to a number of Wolves fans on Twitter, James Henry must have missed that memo.

A home tie against League Two Cambridge United in the EFL Cup second round would have appealed to the Black Country club’s fringe players, not least the likes of Henry.

Making his first start in four matches – the last of which ended in his withdrawal against Crawley after 45 minutes – Henry was so desperate to catch Walter Zenga’s eye, he entered into a game of rock, paper, scissors with Jed Wallace over who got to take Wolves’ second-half penalty.

Despite winning that battle, the 26-year-old lost the important one with U’s goalkeeper Will Norris, who comfortably saved his spot-kick.

Luckily, Wolves were already 2-1 up courtesy of goals from Helder Costa and Wallace – though the result appears to have done Henry few favours.
