Wolverhampton Wanderers fans endured a traumatic afternoon on Saturday as they went two goals behind to League One side Shrewsbury Town and left it until deep into injury time to salvage a 2-2 draw in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

After a goalless first half at the New Meadow, Greg Docherty opened the scoring for the hosts in the 47th minute when he latched on to Fejiri Okenabirhie’s pass before cutting inside and rifling a ferocious effort beyond the reach of John Ruddy.

Things got even worse for Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges as they conceded a second in the 71st minute, Luke Waterfall getting on the end of a corner and thumping a powerful header past Ruddy from close range.

As the alarm bells went from mild ringing to absolute overdrive, Wolves halved the deficit just four minutes later through Raul Jimenez, who met a Traore cross inside the area and fired past Shrews stopper Steve Arnold.

With the clock ticking beyond the regulation 90 minutes, things got very tense indeed but, just like against Leicester, a late goal would save Wolves as Matt Doherty levelled in the second minute of stoppage time when he nodded in Traore’s cross.

As the full-time whistle blew on a draw which would mean a replay at Molineux and a place in the draw for the next round, Wanderers fans were left to mull over what they had just seen – and Helder Costa and Traore were on the receiving end of a lot of Twitter flak:
